Setting the Raised Beds

After getting the beds built, they had to be set in their new home.  We will have 4 raised beds total, so far, in the back yard.  We found an area that gets just enough sunlight to grow veggies.  We will be taking a couple of the trees down in the spring.  Then the beds will get plenty of sunlight.

Boy Wonder #2 helping Sweet Hubby get the beds into place.  BW #2 was a big help moving the frames around.

The area we chose for the raised beds is mostly flat.  It's about the only flat area in the whole yard.  Sweet Hubby checked the frames to make sure they're level.

Most of the frames needed some leveling help.  While he removed weeds and thick junk grass with his flat-tip shovel, he used the leftovers to level out the frames.  Girl Wonder #2 attempted to help.  If daddy's working in the garden, she has to be right next to him.

All four raised beds are ready for soil and transplanting.

  1. Hello! Just found your lovely site. We, too, built raised beds last spring after getting a soil disease in our big veggie garden. You will LOVE your raised beds! Ours were a little tricky, because the garden area slopes, so my hubby and I spent much time digging and leveling the beds. The ingredients for the soil were pricey but well worth it. Look forward to visiting soon to hear about your progress! (And your garden helpers are too cute!) Cheers!

  2. Thanks, Julie! This is our first year making our own beds. We used a kit in the past and it worked well. This is significantly cheaper so we're very happy so far with them. We had a slight slope on our garden area but Sweet Hubby was able to take care of it pretty quickly. Can't wait to see how your garden grows!
