Shuffling Seeds

In preparation for our fall garden, we purchased some seeds in hopes of getting something to grow during this season.  We haven't had much success the past couple of seasons with our fall garden.  We picked out gourds (the Wonder Kids thought they were cute), pumpkins for the front porch, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuces, onions, cabbage, carrots specifically for Boy Wonder #2, and butternut squash for Sweet Hubby.  My friend Garden Guru E gave me some collard seeds she had harvested and saved from last season's production.

First, we had to determine which seeds we could start now and transplant later versus which to direct sow.  Since the Girls Wonder were taking their naps, the Boys Wonder had the fun of shuffling the seeds.  Actually, their Lego men did the shuffling.  It was their day to work in the seed factory.

The seeds on the left are the ones we'll start next week.  The ones on the right are our direct sow once we get the raised beds built/get seeded into containers.

I'm feeling lazy and drained so we decided not to go our usual soil-in-cups seed starting routine this year.  We purchased a seed starting kit to try out.  It'll be interesting to see how it works for us.  The Wonder Kids are sort of excited about the "sponges" growing the seeds.
