My trusty container of grits. I use regular grits because that's why I have on hand. Instant grits work just as well, faster in fact. The ants eat the grits. The grits expand in the ant bellies. The ants die. No more ants in my garden. This works for me. Any surviving ants just pack up and start afresh in another part of the yard.
Sprinkling the grits along the edge of the tomato bed. Boy Wonder #2 had a great time spreading the grits in the bed. He loves to work in the garden, even for something as this.
Girl Wonder #1 getting in on the spreading fun. She loves to work in the garden as much as he does.
Grits work great! Also if you want to deter a path you can spread cinnamon along the path. Ants don't like cinnamon. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the cinnamon. I'll have to try that next. A Twitter buddy (who's also an entymologist/gardener/ag guru mentioned that the grits were an urban myth since ants can't process solid food. I didn't know that so maybe the ants are just leaving because of the waterfall of grits. As long as they are gone, I'm good.
