Adding Calcium to My 'Maters

After a complete loss of tomatoes my first year of gardening with the kids, a sweet gardening friend told me about adding calcium to the tomatoes.  I started reading up on tomato growing and finding ways to add the needed calcium.  This spring when buying tomato plants, a nice gentleman at the garden center mentioned the various ways of adding calcium to the tomatoes to prevent disease and failure.  The one that stood out the most for me was crushed antacid tablets.  I liked this idea better than crushed drywall.

Our tablets ready for crushing.  I purchased the multi-color ones on accident.  I was in a hurry and picked up the wrong packages.  I had been using the mint and noticed that buggies stayed a way a little better since the mint are quite strongly scented.

Everybody getting in on the crushing action.  The Wonder Kids had a great time pounding.  They finally could hammer on something without getting into trouble for breaking it.

Spreading out the crushed tablets by the handful.

We add the crushed tablets to our tomatoes roughly every other week.  So far, our tomatoes are looking great.  Considering this is the first year we've actually had tomatoes make it this far into the season, I'm pretty stinking happy.
