Pumpkin Pie Wanna-be's

One of our seed selections for our fall garden was Early Sugar Pie Pumpkins.  We purchased them for making pumpkin pie and having as decoration for the house during the fall season.  We've never grown pumpkin before so this is exciting for us.

The seeds this year grew amazingly fast.  I believe it's because we had great seeds from Dollar Seed and got them started with Manure Tea.  Add in the good soil and voila-huge, sprawling pumpkins after 6 days.

This is the first seedling we planted.  The root structure after 6 days just blows me away.  If you've grown these before, this is probably not as interesting.  For newbies to pumpkin growing, it's just amazing.

We planted 2 seedlings in our 2 olive jar pots.  We are installing the raised beds over Labor Day weekend since we can't seem to get our act together before then.

Hopefully, in a couple of months we'll have pumpkins growing for pie and decoration.  The trick is going to be keeping the Wonder Kids from harvesting the cute little pumpkins before they are ready.

  2. Thanks, Kerri. We're very excited! The Wonder Kids are already making plans for decorating the pumpkins with googly eyes, fuzzy patches, and pipe cleaners. Sweet Hubby is pulling out his collection of pumpkin pie recipes.
