This past Saturday I had the luxury of an almost-full truck bed of composted horse manure courtesy of a Sweet Hubby who had nothing on his "To-Do" list (or at least nothing he was willing to actually do). We headed out early to our favorite horse barn to relieve them of some of their manure. Once we arrived back home, I went to work redoing the flower bed at the mailbox. I had intended to only do a small section but ended up redoing the entire bed. When the energy is equal to the will, I just go with it.
On Wednesday, we went and picked up 3 5-gallon buckets of the composted manure. Crazy me thought this might be enough. Ha. Not even close. But I did have a cute garden helper who was willing to sit on the newspapers covering the grass and weeds til I could get it watered enough to stay down by itself.
After the initial 15 gallons of composted manure. It was a good start.
Then we hauled in the half-a-truck-bed-full of composted manure. That was just enough. I ended up taking out the purple hearts already planted and redoing the entire bed. I planted the iris', crinum lily seed pods, and calla lily seed pods.
This week, I'll put a layer of topsoil over it and mulch it good with cypress mulch. Then we let it sit and get happy until the spring. Hopefully, we'll have a very nice assortment of iris' and lilies popping through.
Looks great!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've finally gotten the mulch over it so the purple hearts have perked up considerably. Even the mailman commented on how nice it looked.
